I pondered the following statements for about 2 weeks, confused about why something wasn't sitting quite right, when the statements are technically correct.
"The devil tempts us ALL when we are at our weakest."
.......
"The devil KNOWS when we are at our weakest."
.......
"The devil is the father of lies...…. don't listen to him."
.......
"If we don't stand for something, we WILL fall."
.......
I was studying Matthew 14: 22-33 which is about when Peter walked on water, and it finally made sense. Jesus called Peter to "come" and Peter walked on the water towards Jesus. While Peter was focused on Jesus, he was secure even in the storm. Peter became afraid when he changed his focus to the wind INSTEAD of Jesus. It became clear that these statements focus on the devil and what he can do.... INSTEAD....the focus needs to be on JESUS and what HE can do!
So.....
Yes..... the devil does tempt me at my weakest...
But I do not have to fear, because that is when Jesus makes me strong.
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart celebrates, and I give thanks to him with my song.Psalm 28:7
Yes..... the devil knows when I am at my weakest...
But SO DOES JESUS.
He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.
Isaiah 40:29
Yes..... the devil is the father of lies...
But Christ is the way, and the TRUTH, and the life.
Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6
Yes..... if we don't stand for something, we will fall...
But I do not have to live in fear because God is with me and will hold me up.
Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
Focus on the Promises.
